When is a certified translation of a doctor’s report / doctor’s letter needed?
It is often health insurance companies or government agencies that require a certified translation of a medical report / doctor’s letter in order to prove certain treatments abroad or a certain health condition. Since the subsequent decisions (e.g., about reimbursement of treatment costs) often have a high personal and financial impact, it is especially important to provide a professional certified translation of the highest quality.
What is a medical report / doctor’s letter?
A physician report/physician letter is usually issued when a patient is discharged from a facility and transferred to another hospital or changes to outpatient care. The physician’s letter contains the following information, among other things:
- Information on the patient’s previous course of disease
- Information about treatments performed
- Results of examinations / findings
- Information about the patient’s condition
- Recommendations for further treatment
The purpose of the physician letter is to ensure continuity of care. The referring physician can use the information to follow up on previous treatment. Physician letters are often sent by mail to the next treating facility – abbreviated versions are usually included by the patient on the day of discharge.
